The University is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our colleague, Andy Baker.
Andy was a popular member of the School of Science, Engineering and Environment technician team. He will be remembered for his generosity, encouragement, and the genuine care he showed to everyone around him.
Andy was born and lived in Salford for most of his life. He had worked at the University for over 40 years starting at University College Salford which merged with the University of Salford in 1996. At the College Andy maintained and fixed the Computer Numerical Control Machines and when he moved to the University he would repair anything electrical that was given to him.
He then moved into the role of Robotics Technician where he worked closely with academic colleagues, supporting teaching, research and enterprise activities.
He was a big supporter of Manchester City Football Club and football in general. Andy was an exceptionally kind, thoughtful, helpful and supportive colleague, and also a bit of a prankster, and his presence will be profoundly missed at the University.
