The University of Salford Poets Union is the brainchild of Libby Tiernan, Anthony Haughey, Austin Denham, Isabella Manning and Lauren Griffith.

BA (Hons) Drama and Creative Writing student Libby (pictured right with Austin Denham) said: “We noticed there wasn’t any literary society groups, so we decided to set up our own. We are really inclusive and aim to provide a supportive environment for any level of confidence and skill.”

The group meets every Tuesday evening at 6pm on Microsoft Teams with a broad programme of interactive, poetry-based activities.

“Especially with everything going on in the world, it’s nice to get together, be social and enjoy some poetry every week, albeit online,” said Libby.

The talented budding poets also plan to organise social events in the future like movie nights and online quizzes. Plus, with an end of year Christmas poetry showcase on the cards, they are hoping as many people will join as possible.

Students, colleagues and alumni of all abilities are welcome to join the Poets Union. To find out more and get involved simply email poetsunionussu@hotmail.com
