Caravan from the Future to visit MediaCity campus

Categories: School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology

The Caravan from the Future will be racing over to Salford this month in a new exhibition project that showcases the unlimited potential that future technology could have on our everyday lives.

The MediaCity Campus will play host to Mundane Futures’ immersive live research project from Wednesday 10 May.

Designed by researchers from Lancaster University and the University of Nottingham in collaboration with BBC R&D, the caravan aims to provide a thought-provoking experience as the user considers the future use of the mundane technology that we take for granted in our daily lives.

Visitors will enter ‘a living room of the future’ incorporating both real and fictional products and services.

The project seeks to create an experience for the visitor that questions how much choice people will have in the way in which broadcasting progresses in the future. It will be delivered through a variety of internet-of-things (IOT) devices, flexible media and artificial intelligence.

The exhibition will be open in the campus foyer 10am to 4pm from Wednesday 10 May until Saturday 13 May.
