Alumni achievements celebrated in New Year Honours

The New Year Honours list recognises the achievements and service of extraordinary people across the United Kingdom.

A number of University of Salford alumni received honours, including:

 

  • Hanif Kara – Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)

Hanif is Design Director and Co-Founder at AKT II and Professor in Practice of Architectural Technology at Harvard Graduate School of Design. He studied BSc Civil Engineering at the University of Salford. The award recognises services to architecture, to engineering and to education.

  • Kevin McGee – Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)

Kevin is Joint Chief Executive, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. His award was given in recognition of his service to the NHS. He studied BA Geography.

  • Hannah Russell – Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)

Hannah is a Paralympic athlete and was recognised for her services to swimming. She secured a Gold and Bronze medal at the Tokyo2020 Paralympic Games, retaining her title in the S12 100m Backstroke and coming in third in the S12 100m Freestyle for Great Britain. She studied BSc Sports Science: Human Performance at the University of Salford. Read more about Hannah's incredible achievements.

  • Sayyed Osman – Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)

Sayyed is Strategic Director of Adults and Health at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. He studied BSc Surveying (Valuation Surveying) PTDE. This award is for his services to the community in East Lancashire.

  • Mukesh Malhotra – Medal of the Order of the British Empire (BEM)

Mukesh was given this award for services to the community in the London Borough of Hounslow, particularly during Covid-19. He studied MSc Managing Information Technology at the University of Salford.
