A Hat-trick for the Excellence in Structural Engineering Education Award

Categories: School of Science, Engineering and Environment

For the third time we have scooped the 2020 accolade for the Excellence in Structural Engineering Education.

The award is presented by The Institution of Structural Engineers  the global engineering body that represents, regulates and coordinates structural engineers.

Jonathan Hayes, Reader in Engineering Education at the University said: “We have dominated this award since its inception winning it in 2012, 2015 and 2020. At Salford we are an engineering team that are engaged in pushing the boundaries of education techniques. Our focus has been to drive the advance in education of engineers in relation to the climate emergency.”

“An engineer who reduces the carbon content of a building structure could save 200,000kg of CO2, whereas stopping eating meat, drinking alcohol and driving a car will only save 5,000kg of CO2 per year.“

The University of Salford has won the award more times than any other university.
