7. Maxwell Building foundations
Work began on the Maxwell Building in 1958 to provide accommodation for the newly created Royal College of Advanced Technology. It was originally part of a campus plan which would have seen the Museum and Art Gallery and Peel Building (both visible in the photo below) demolished to make way for modernist 1960's architecture. Thank goodness that sense was seen in time to save these two terrific old buildings!
