How much does Graduation cost?
Graduation is a free event to celebrate your academic achievements. Your graduate ticket is free, as well as your two complimentary guest tickets, you need to select your complimentary guest tickets when you register to attend. You are however, required to hire or buy a University of Salford cap and gown. On this page you will find details of the cost of a gown as well as other optional costs to enhance your Graduation day.
Gown hire
Your cap and gown are the only mandatory costs at Graduation.
This is an important part of the ceremony – you won’t be allowed to cross the stage without a gown. The gown design you’re required to wear is dependent on the level of qualification you have achieved – you can see a guide on our gown hire page.
You can hire your gown directly through our partners, Graduation Attire.
Gown hire costs are as follows:
- Undergraduate: £42
- Postgraduate: £42
- PHD: £45
After graduation you are also able to purchase your hat as a keepsake for £10.
Guest tickets
You can bring 2 guests for free into the theatre at Graduation, to see you cross the stage. These complimentary tickets can be requested when you register for Graduation. Any extra guests can also watch the ceremony from our livestream theatre in Peel Hall for free. There is no need to book live stream tickets.
Occasionally we have additional tickets available on the day however, this is not guaranteed. If tickets are available, they will be sold on a first come, first served basis, priced at £12.50 each. Please ask at the ticket desk on your Graduation day, when collecting your complimentary tickets, if there are any additional guest tickets available.
Children over the age of 2 will need their own ticket to attend. Children who are under two years of age may sit on an adult’s lap and will require a free ‘Child Under 2’ ticket, which you can add to the access requirements notes when you register to attend graduation. You can also contact us to add a Child Under 2 ticket after registration by emailing grad-acd@salford.ac.uk.
Professional Photography
Many graduates choose to commemorate their achievements by purchasing professional photographs of themselves along with their guests. Our official photography partners Graduation Attire offer a range of photography packages, from digital downloads to framed gifts. Photography bundles start from £30 for one digital download picture of an individual graduate.
Visit Graduation Attire's website to explore the packages further and see which is the best for you. You can pre-order your pictures or purchase them on your Graduation day. Photography studios are based on campus in the Gilbert Rooms during Winter Graduation.

Accommodation, travel and celebrations
You and your loved ones may choose to extend your celebrations by staying in the city or having a meal together. Many local restaurants and hotels work with us to offer discounted rates, special set menus and free drinks for Graduates. Visit our accommodation, merchandise and offers to help plan your celebration and explore offers.
Graduation merchandise
Each graduate is given one brochure at graduation, when they check-in. But you can choose to buy additional copies, the brochure includes the names of all graduates along with messages of thanks and support from some familiar faces at the university, alumni and further studies information, You can also choose to buy further mementos, including branded fans and flips flops as well as graduation hoodies, t-shirts, bears and mugs!
