Julie Charge: Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Finance Officer

Julie Charge portrait

Julie Charge has worked at the University of Salford as the Director of Finance since 2014. She later took on a wider role in January 2024 which included Estates & Facilities, Student Services, Culture and Marketing, and Communications & External Relations.  Julie has seen many positive changes during this period, including bringing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and well-being to the forefront of everything we do at the University of Salford, including how we translate this to our physical environment and policy changes; the equalisation of holiday entitlement for all staff in July 2024 is a good illustration of this. Julie is always keen to speak with colleagues at the University to see how we can create a more inclusive culture. She is passionate about providing opportunities for open conversations between staff at all levels.

Internally, Julie currently sits as the Chair of the Disability Equity Group, which aims to recognise and remove the barriers to working at Salford that disabled colleagues currently face. Externally, Julie is a member of the British University Finance Directors Group (BUFDG) and a representative member on the JISC Finance Committee, a co-opted member on the UCEA Audit Committee and a Non-Executive Director for UMAL.
