Our sport and exercise science Clearing course allows you to explore how evidence-based approaches can enhance performance, improve wellbeing, and support public health initiatives. Sport and Exercise Science degrees in Clearing
Our sport and exercise science Clearing courses will develop your skills in analysing and evaluating the performance of sportspeople at all levels, from the recreational exerciser to the elite athlete.
With modules that cover both traditional and contemporary sport and exercise science disciplines, you’ll learn how to assess the fitness and performance needs of clients to design an appropriate exercise programme.

Whatever pathway you choose, you will learn in state-of-the-art facilities. Our human performance laboratory is one of the best in the country, containing almost every type of physiological, performance analysis, and biomechanical testing equipment. Our equipment includes a 30-metre sprint track with inbuilt force platforms, motion capture systems, blood and gas analysis tools, and speed guns.
Our strength and conditioning suite have dedicated PowerLift platforms for students and athletes to learn advanced training techniques, as well as a Biodex isokinetic dynamometer to assess muscle function and asymmetries.
If you choose one of our sport and exercise science Clearing places, you will access the same gait labs and exercise and physiology laboratory (with gas analysis systems, blood analysers, and isokinetic testing conditions) used by our expert researchers at the Centre for Health and Sciences Research.

On our Sport and Exercise Science Clearing courses, we have a variety of pathways that allow you to specialise in your chosen area so you can prepare for a range of careers.
In your first two years, you’ll study core sport and exercise science modules, building a strong foundation across key areas including physiology, sport psychology, and sport nutrition.
In your final year, you’ll have the flexibility to tailor your learning around your career goals by choosing from a range of specialised career-focused modules. Options like Applied Sport and Exercise Practice, Advanced Strength and Conditioning, and Advanced Performance Analysis are designed to equip you with the practical skills and knowledge needed for a range of careers in sport, health, and performance settings.

BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science
On our BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science Clearing degree, you will learn how to assess a client’s fitness and performance to create a personalised exercise programme. With a strong focus on practical experience, you’ll gain hands-on skills in applied settings such as schools, local sports clubs, and the wider community.
You’ll develop core expertise in areas including exercise physiology, psychology, and nutrition, all essential for careers across sport, health, and fitness sectors.
In your final year, you can tailor your learning through specialist modules enabling you to deepen your knowledge in specific areas while still graduating with a single, recognised BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science degree.
These specialist modules include targeted work placement opportunities and are aligned with professional standards, such as the UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA), to support your career development and potential accreditation after graduation.
