Wellbeing Hub room guidance

The Wellbeing Hub in University House has been created by the University in partnership with Salford Students’ Union to help support your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. It will mainly operate as a drop-in space for you to use, but it will also be used for dedicated wellbeing activity and events organised by the University or the Students’ Union.

The Wellbeing Hub is open Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00. This page will take you through how you can use the space and what you can expect to find when you come to relax.

What the Wellbeing Hub is for

The Wellbeing Hub has been created to support you in balancing your studies and your wellbeing. It has quiet zones, areas to relax, comfortable seating and ambient lighting to keep the space calm.

The Wellbeing Hub is also for activities and events organised by the University or Students’ Union. This includes pre-planned group activities, workshops, and peer-led initiatives – a good example of this was our Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month event with stalls held in November.

The space will mainly be used as a drop-in space for all students to use when you need some quiet relaxation.

What's in the Wellbeing Hub

The Wellbeing Hub is made up of two zones:

  • The Quiet Zone is a calm corner for meditation, reading and reflection
  • The Social Zone is a relaxing space for quiet group discussions, peer support, pre-planned group activities and workshops

You’ll find a mix of different seating: some more relaxed sofas mixed in amongst tables and chairs.

There are also a few shared resources to help with your wellbeing, including things like books to read and colouring-in books. Make sure to keep these in the room so others can use them too.

There are toilets nearby in University House, including accessible toilets and gender neutral toilets.

Using the Wellbeing Hub

This is a calm, quiet space for all students to use, so we encourage you to be mindful of how you’re using the Wellbeing Hub. We’ve put together some guidance so you can help us keep the space welcoming and inclusive for everyone. The Wellbeing Hub is open Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00.

  • Please be as quiet as possible while you’re using the Wellbeing Hub. Think of it like a quiet carriage on the train – it’s not a space for phone or video calls, online meetings, music or any other activities that could disturb other users
  • Listening to music is OK, as long as you’re wearing headphones and the music isn’t being blasted so loudly that others can hear it (though we would also worry about your ears in that case – so please treat your eardrums kindly!)
  • Alcohol cannot be brought into or consumed in the Wellbeing Hub
  • Please don’t eat or drink in the Wellbeing Hub. We aim to keep the Wellbeing Hub fresh, calm and comfortable for everyone, which means minimising smells and the risk of spills and stains. The Common Room and spaces in the North Side are just next door and are available for you to eat and drink in
  • Please avoid spraying deodorant, cologne or perfume in the Wellbeing Hub. Some of these smells can be overwhelming for others
  • Absolutely no vaping allowed. It should go without saying, but please do not vape or smoke in the Wellbeing Hub
  • Having a group discussion? Please try to keep it quiet and in the Social Zone of the Wellbeing Hub. We love a robust discussion and hearing you having a good time – but take it to the North Side or the Common Room if you find you’re getting louder
  • Sometimes the Wellbeing Hub will be used for a pre-organised event delivered by a University team or the Students’ Union. For many events, you will be able to join in. If the event is a closed event or you don’t want to join in, we have spaces nearby that you can use – try the Common Room, spaces in the North Side or find another space on campus in our student spaces blog

Having a problem while using the Wellbeing Hub? Let askUS or the Students’ Union in University House know. Head to the Help Desk on Level 1 of University House or provide us with feedback via email: askus@salford.ac.uk and/or students-union@salford.ac.uk
