Your first look at our Greater Manchester Institute of Technology building

We are pleased to reveal a sneak peek at our highly anticipated Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (GMIoT) building.

Part of our ambitious Campus Connectivity Plan, the two-storey 1840 m² building was designed by jmarchitects, with Tilbury Douglas leading the construction. Building work started in Autumn 2024 with the ambitious project nearing its final stages of development, due for completion in December 2025.

Innovating with low carbon solutions

The University is proud to support the Greater Manchester carbon revolution which will transform Greater Manchester into a world-leading greener, cleaner city region and we are committed to achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2038.

The building’s low carbon innovation features a green roof with photovoltaic panels to generate renewable energy, alongside a green living wall supported by rainwater harvesting.

Modern spaces to support learning

We have worked with our industry partners to build hands-on learning environments. Our goal is to bring the future of work into today’s classroom – students will experience digital labs, virtual reality spaces, a prototyping workshop and ICT studios, right at the centre of our Peel Park Campus.

Thoughtfully designed to blend with surroundings

The building design has played careful attention to its environment. Throughout September the Tilbury Doughlas team have been carefully fitting shingle cladding panels to its colours that complement its surrounds; green tiles akin to leafy Peel Park on its right and red tiles to match its neighbouring Science, Engineering and Environment (SEE) Building to its left.

The final stages to the project will include beautiful outside landscaping, which we are privileged to be working alongside the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) on – more to come on that soon.
