Tote bag competition
Terms and conditions for the University of Salford’s tote bag competition, covering eligibility, submissions, and prize details.
Promoter
This prize draw is operated by the University of Salford (“the Promoter”).
Nature of the promotion
This is a free-to-enter prize draw and not a lottery for the purposes of the Gambling Act 2005. No payment or purchase is required to enter.
Eligibility
- The prize draw is open only to current enrolled students and staff of the University of Salford, the Promoter.
- Entrants must be able to provide proof of their status (valid University of Salford (Promoter) student or staff email address or ID) if selected as a winner.
- Anyone under the age of 18 is excluded from participation in this competition.
- The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who cannot verify their eligibility.
- Entrants must be resident in the United Kingdom and have a personal Instagram account.
- Employees of the Promoter’s Marketing and Catering teams, and their immediate family members, are not eligible to enter.
How to enter
- To enter, participants must during the Competition Period:
- Follow @uos_eatanddrink on Instagram; and
- Send a Direct Message (DM) to the account stating what they would like to see in campus restaurants.
- Only one entry per person is permitted. Multiple entries from the same individual will be treated as a single entry.
- Entries must be made from a personal Instagram account. Entries from business, promotional, or shared accounts may be excluded at the Promoter’s discretion.
- No purchase is required to enter.
Competition period
- Entries open at 08:00 on Monday 2 February and close at 14:00 on Friday 20 February (“Competition Period”)
- Entries received outside the Competition Period will not be considered.
- The Promoter reserves the right to extend, suspend, or cancel the prize draw where necessary due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control.
Prizes
- There are five (5) prizes available. Each prize consists of one “Eat and Drink” branded tote bag containing:
- A selection of sweet treats;
- One (1) reusable coffee cup;
- One (1) University of Salford hoodie (subject to size availability); and
- One (1) voucher for a Free Main Meal at a participating Eat and Drink on Campus outlet.
- Prizes are non-transferable, non-refundable, and cannot be exchanged for cash or any alternative.
- If any element of the prize becomes unavailable, the Promoter reserves the right to provide a reasonable alternative of equal or greater value.
Winner selection
- Five winners will be selected at random from all valid entries received during the Competition Period.
- The random selection will be conducted by or on behalf of the Promoter using a verifiable method.
- The Promoter’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Winner notification
- Winners will be contacted via Instagram Direct Message within 7 days of the closing date.
- If a winner does not respond within 72 hours, the Promoter reserves the right to select an alternative winner at random.
- The Promoter is not responsible for messages not received due to privacy settings, spam filters, or inactive accounts.
Prize collection
- Prizes must be collected in person from a designated location on the University of Salford’s (Promoter’s) main campus.
- Details of the collection point and timeframe will be provided to winners upon notification.
- The “Free Main Meal” voucher is subject to its own terms and expiry date printed on the voucher.
Data protection (UK GDPR)
- The Promoter will process entrants’ personal data (including Instagram handle and University (Promoter) affiliation) for the purposes of administering this prize draw and contacting winners.
- Personal data will be handled in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Personal data will be retained for a period of 30 days after the prize draw closes, and then securely destroyed in line with the University Retention Policy.

- Entrants may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal data in accordance with their legal rights.
Publicity
- Winners may be invited (but are not obliged) to take part in reasonable post-competition publicity, such as a photograph at prize collection.
- Winners have the right to decline publicity without affecting their right to receive the prize.
Use of feedback
By entering, participants grant the Promoter a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, and analyse their feedback for service improvement and marketing purposes.
Liability
- Nothing in these terms excludes or limits the Promoter’s liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under UK law.
- Subject to the clause above, the Promoter shall not be liable for any indirect or unforeseeable losses arising from participation in the prize draw or use of the prize.

Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
