Enhancing Children’s Wellbeing Through Artificial Intelligence

Bounce Together, that launched in 2019, has one simple aim to put well-being at the heart of education. They provide schools with a game-changing survey platform for measuring and monitoring physical and mental wellbeing and the attitudes of pupils, staff and parents. They approached The University of Salford as they wanted to take the next step with their product by integrating AI to enhance how schools interpret and act on their data.

By introducing this technology, they are hoping to provide: interpretable, natural-language summaries, significantly simplifying how schools digest and act on their results. This will completely transform how schools:

  • Identify trends: Highlight patterns in emotional health and wellbeing over time to understand how students are feeling
  • Act proactively: Detect early warning signs of mental health challenges and provide timely interventions to reduce the number of safeguarding incidents further down the line
  • Focus resources: Use data to inform where to allocate support that will create the biggest impact

Ultimately, this will provide the missing link of pupil voice in every child’s education to offer a deeper understanding of their thoughts and feelings. With the help of the team at The University of Salford they can transform how this is captured and used, enabling schools to make better choices that truly reflect a child’s needs.

Bob Wilkinson, Managing Director at Bounce Together said “This initial phase with Salford is just the beginning. We are laying the foundation for a future where schools can continuously and seamlessly adapt to their students' needs, making more personalised choices about how each child’s emotional health and wellbeing is supported and navigated.

By combining this crucial insight with other data, educators can become truly proactive, gaining foresight into potential challenges before they arise”

Dr Azadeh Mohammadi, Data Science & AI Hub said “This project will focus on summarising and deriving insights from the questionnaires collected from students across the platform. By providing a clear and concise synthesis of the data, this solution will facilitate a deeper understanding of students’ mental health status, patterns and concerns.

The insights generated will empower educators, administrators, and mental health professions to make informed decisions regarding intervention strategies and support services.”
