Support during adverse world events

Incidents, disasters and world events can cause anxiety, especially for those who may have family and friends in affected regions. We've detailed information about wellbeing, money, academic and other support further below. Please do reach out to askUS for wellbeing support if you need to speak to someone or if you need specific advice for your circumstances.

How we can support you
Wellbeing, counselling and talking to someone
Support from our Chaplains for those of all beliefs
  • You can access our Chaplaincy team who are here to listen, care and support you. Find out more about them on our website. We have Chaplains available for students of all faiths and who are also happy to speak to students who do not have a particular religion or belief
  • You can contact the Chaplaincy team by emailing faithcentre@salford.ac.uk or by dropping into the Faith Centre on our Peel Park campus – it is across the road from the SEE Building. Find opening times on our Faith webpage
Money support

We offer financial support for students in particular circumstances.

  • International students: Our International Support Fund is there to help international students who are experiencing an unplanned and unpredictable expenditure or disruption to your source of finance for fee repayments and living costs. This must have arisen as a result of a significant and unexpected event that could not have been predicted in your financial planning.
  • UK students: Our Salford Support Fund is there to help UK students who are experiencing exceptional and unexpected financial difficulties during the academic year and/or are considering leaving higher education because of financial issues.
Academic support
  • If you feel your studies are being affected, you can contact your School via your School Programme Administrator or Personal Tutor so that we can provide the right support to you. If you don’t know who to contact, please contact askUS
  • If you wish, you can also submit a Personal Mitigating Circumstances request to explain how you have been impacted by recent events

Keeping our community safe from hate

We are also concerned about the impact adverse world events have on our University community and in the wider UK society, and the possible increase in hate-related activity. We do not tolerate hate in our community. If you witness anything that may be classed as hate-related (e.g. racism) in a University context, please Report It to us.
