Salford nursing leader celebrates Honorary Professor appointment

Categories: School of Health and Society

A senior nurse who has dedicated over 40 years of her life to the NHS is joining the University of Salford as an Honorary Professor.

Elaine Inglesby

Elaine Inglesby, Chief Nurse at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group, began her nursing career in 1980 at Warrington Hospital and has spent her entire career in the North West.

Awarded with a CBE for her services to nursing in 2015, Elaine’s career has taken her to St Helens and Knowsley Hospital Trust, The Walton Centre in Liverpool, where she became Director of Nursing, and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

The Northern Care Alliance is the NHS Group created by Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

The University of Salford, which is one of the country’s largest educators of nurses, midwives and allied health professionals, works closely with Elaine and her team to help ensure the health professional education of students is fit for the future and prepare the workforce to engage in technology and transformation. Elaine was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the university in 2018.

Elaine said: “I was delighted and honoured, I really can’t believe it. Our relationship with the university has always been so important to me and hopefully my position as an honorary professor will help to further strengthen the relationship between nursing and non-medical professionals, the Northern Care Alliance and the university.

“I’ve been lucky enough to experience the most tremendous career and I want to see others enjoy the same. Student nurses should have access to the best training and education and feel inspired to want to continuously keep on learning and developing throughout their careers. If together we can achieve this, patients, service users and the local population will benefit immeasurably.”

Professor Margaret Rowe, Dean of the University of Salford’s School of Health and Society, said: “Elaine is an inspirational role model, who embodies many of the values we instil in our students. We are delighted to welcome her on board as an Honorary Professor and look forward very much to her continued involvement with the university.”
