Public Relations course marks landmark milestone with industry accreditation
The University of Salford's MA Public Relations and Digital Communications course has marked a major milestone after being accredited by public relations’ leading trade body.
Home to more than 11,000 individuals who work across public relations and communications, the Chartered Institute for Public Relations (CIPR) only recognises courses that meet its firm criteria and our course has become the 22nd in the UK and Ireland to receive this accreditation.
The accreditation (officially documented as ‘recognised’ by the CIPR) is a big step in the development of the master’s programme.
It will ensure the course is aligned with industry standards, provide access to CIPR guest speakers, industry events, masterclasses and networking opportunities for our students – who will also get access to a discounted individual membership.
The course is taught by our expert tutors at the University’s MediaCity campus, who regularly provide guest lectures and talks from leading professionals from across the PR sector.
Richard Jones, Director of Media, Film, Journalism, Politics and History at the University of Salford, said: “Having our programme recognised by the CIPR is great news. It helps us stay on top of current standards in what is a fast-changing industry.
“MediaCity is a wonderful location to learn PR and Digital Communications. The course already attracts students from across the UK and around the world and we’re looking forward to working with the CIPR to make sure that continues.”
Debra Manley, Programme Leader for MA Public Relations and Digital Communications, said: “Being recognised by the CIPR has been a wonderful testament to the hard work of Dr Chedza Simon and Michelle Eagleton in preparing our postgraduate students with the research and practical skills they need for a wide range of careers in global public relations.
“We look forward to working with the CIPR to enhance our students’ professional development even further and our networking opportunities at MediaCity, such as PR After Hours.”
PR After Hours was an evening networking event at our MediaCity campus in January attended by over 100 public relations professionals from across Greater Manchester to network and discuss the future of the sector.
