Professor Andrew Rowland awarded Senior Fellowship

Congratulations to Professor Andrew Rowland, Honorary Professor for Children’s Rights, Law, and Advocacy, who has been awarded a Senior Fellowship of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management.

Award Winner

Senior Fellowship of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) is awarded to members of the faculty who are General Medical Council (GMC) or General Dental Council (GDC) registered and who have made a significant contribution to leadership and management in the health sector.

The Faculty’s vision is to inspire and promote excellence in medical leadership to drive continuous improvement in health and healthcare in the UK. Since the launch of the Faculty 190 Fellowship awards have been made, 66 at Fellowship level, 89 at Senior Fellowship and 35 at Associate Fellowship. Senior Fellowship has therefore been awarded to a very small proportion of the 339,001 Doctors and 113,972 Dentists in the UK (0.02%).

Andrew has been at the University since 2014 and holds several senior leadership roles from Non-Executive Director, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of registered charity SicKids and over 17 years of national, and over ten years of international, clinical and leadership experience and expertise.

Andrew said, “I’m delighted to be awarded Senior Fellowship of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management in recognition of my contribution to leadership and management in the health sector.

“Patients, colleagues, and healthcare systems require the very best leaders and I consider that this award is reflective of the superb support and encouragement that has been offered by the university, the NHS, and other health-focused organisations I’ve worked with, to enable me to develop as a senior healthcare leader.”

Professor Margaret Rowe, Dean of the School of Health and Society, said:

“I am exceptionally proud that the FMLM have awarded Professor Andrew Rowland a Senior Fellowship.  Andrew is an Honorary Professor in the School of Health and Society where his research focusses on improving lives of Children and Young people in GM and Globally whilst also leading his clinical work in Paediatric A&E at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

“He is part of a strong academic team at our University who collaborate with external stakeholders to enhance safeguarding of children and young people. Andrew’s commitment and drive in children’s advocacy is inspiring and is heading toward the development of a service in Greater Manchester to give our young people a voice to be heard. It is an honour to work with Andrew and brilliant to see his success.”
