Sian, who studied MA Public Relations and Digital communication, now handles internal and external communications for the train operating company.

Sian said: “Getting the job was a massive relief, it felt like all the effort and time I had put into my degree paid off.

“Working for TransPennine has been great so far, it's a really supportive team and working in such a busy environment I think will really help me develop as a professional.”

Prior to starting at the university, Sian said: “I didn't have much PR experience before I came to Salford.

“All I had was the marketing modules in my Bachelors and the social media account for my mum's business I had been running for a few months by that point.

“During my master’s, I was able to gain more insight into what was involved in successful PR and comms. Before I started my course, I had no clue how to write a press release.”

Michelle Eagleton, Lecturer on the MA Public Relations and Digital Communications course said: “I'm extremely proud of Sian securing a job in the comms team of Transpennine Express before even graduating at Salford University from her MA course.

“It's great to see so many of our MA PR and Digital Communications working in PR Agencies and in house PR teams like Sian, we endeavor to give them the real-life skills, along with having great industry contacts that alert us directly when they are looking to recruit, like TPE did.”
