Appointment of Dr Janice Allan to Dean of Salford Business School
Dr Janice Allan has been appointed the Dean of Salford Business School at the University of Salford with immediate effect.
Janice brings a wealth of experience to the role, having joined the University in 2002 as a Lecturer in the School of English, Sociology, Politics and Contemporary History. Her interest in the student experience was fostered early through her roles as an Equality and Diversity Co-ordinator, Programme Leader, Associate Head of School and, since 2013, Associate Dean Academic. Janice joined Salford Business School in February 2019 and has been successfully leading colleagues through a period of structural and cultural change that remains firmly focused on improving the student experience.
Janice will lead on the transformation of the school and continue to strengthen our ties with industry through the application of credible research. The role will also play a key part in helping the University deliver its vision of working with industry to strengthen our expertise in robotics, digital and smart living over the next few years.
Professor Helen Marshall, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Salford said:
“Throughout the rigorous recruitment process, which included external support from Professor Kevin Kerrigan at Sheffield Hallam University, Janice demonstrated exceptional insight and passion for driving the Business School forward to create an environment where people feel empowered to innovate both inside and outside the classroom. I am also delighted to see that we continue to nurture our own talent and this appointment demonstrates our advocacy for alternative career paths that are not restricted by discipline.”
Reflecting on her appointment, Dr Janice Allan said:
“I’m absolutely delighted to be taking on this new role in Salford Business School. We have an amazing new leadership team and a strong sense of purpose and direction. Our commitment, above all, is to provide an outstanding experience for our students by creating an environment where people feel empowered to innovate, both inside and outside the classroom.”
