That’s A Wrap 2023! Here is what to look forward to in 2024

2023 has been a year full of development, outstanding training, and connections established for Salford Professional Development. The 8th Annual Operating Theatres Conference was a huge success - new accredited courses were introduced, outstanding training programmes realising a 97% customer satisfaction rate, new tutors were welcomed to the SPD team, and a building renovation was undertaken to restore our Grade 2 listed building.

This blog will reflect on a great 2023 and what lies ahead for the SPD team, and you, in 2024.

2023

We kick started 2023, welcoming over 300 delegates to the Annual Operating Theatres Conference for a day of networking and exploring topics such as the impact of the Covid-19 backlog on elective care, initiatives in reducing elective care waiting lists, sustainability and greener operations, and the latest policy updates and technology developments.

To discuss and share insights on these topics we had industry experts join us from NHS England, Centre for Perioperative Care and President-elect, Medical Women’s Federation, The Association for Perioperative Practice, NHS Supply Chain and Salford Royal Major Trauma Centre.

We launched several new leadership and management courses, including the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 7 in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, which is designed for managers and senior leaders who want to learn EDI at a strategic level.

The CMI Level 7 in Strategic Approaches to Mental Health and Wellbeing training was also introduced at SPD. This programme delves into the relationship between mental health, well-being, and organisational performance, as well as the ways in which managers and senior leaders may positively influence the mental health and wellbeing of their workforce.

We introduced the Clinical Governance for Senior Leaders programme in response to training demand, after our delegates expressed a desire for a more senior level training course. This programme was created in response to the Clinical Governance in Healthcare programme selling out year after year.

This course is led by healthcare leaders with substantial strategic governance experience, the programme enables delegates to holistically investigate their own organisations by unravelling the systemic interdependencies that scaffold effective clinical governance.

Finally, we welcomed back all our beloved and regular tutors, including Dawn Holmes, John Palfreyman, Elizabeth McManus, Martin Corlett-Cross and many more. We also introduced Mark Bloomer, an International Business Coach specialising in leadership development and sales management leading on the CMI Level 5 Sales Leadership Programme.

2024

In addition to some exciting new developments planned for 2024, we will kick off the year with the 9th Annual Operating Theatres Conference, which will welcome approximately 500 attendees and multiple sponsors for a day of networking and education.
