Katharine House Hospice Testimonial

Katharine House Hospice is a charity providing specialised care for people of Mid-Staffordshire who have terminal illness and provide support for their families. The hospice cares for patients with a wide range of conditions including cancer, motor neurone disease, renal and heart failure.

Back in 2023 Salford Professional Development (SPD) partnered with Katharine House Hospice to develop a bespoke training solution that focused on leadership and clinical governance. Through an initial consultation, preparation and agreement, SPD was able to create a programme aimed at mid to senior management that explored specific challenges the organisation faced.

SPD was able to sit down with David Fletcher, Director of Care at Katharine House Hospice after the training was delivered to find out how they found their experience with us.

Q1. How did your organisation find out about Salford Professional Development?

“Keeping abreast of the courses that are delivered through the sector on LinkedIn or different social media platforms, I had seen that there had been some positive feedback surrounding SPD.”

“When there was an organisational challenge that we needed to respond to SPD was one of the training providers that I thought I’d reach out to.”

Q2. Was your workforce facing any challenges that prompted you to book with SPD?

“As a charity that provides health and care services, it can be quite difficult to access the expertise that we need at any given time to ensure our staff are fully competent and confident to deliver the very best clinical care.”

Q3. What were the outcomes that you wanted to see from this training for you workforce?

“An increased understanding and application of the knowledge surrounding management, governance, leadership and working within a complicated healthcare environment. To be able to feel confident to apply skills and knowledge to improve clinical quality.”

“Right from the design of the programme until the review of the programme, the response from SPD was tailored specifically to Katherine House Hospice. The style of SPD was enthusiastic, empowering and characterised by diligence and professionalism throughout.”

Q5. Did you see any positive outcomes happen within your organisation because of this programme?

“The immediate outcome that we saw was a positive improvement to staff morale and equally we saw the quality of the work from the staff that attended the programme increased significantly, demonstrating that Salford Professional Developments programme hit the objectives that we were after.”

Q6. Would you recommend SPD to others?

“I would absolutely recommend SPD to others and the tutors were amazing!”
