Case Study: Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust

The Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust extends community health services to a population exceeding two million across eleven London boroughs and Hertfordshire. Notably, the trust received high commendation in the NHS Parliamentary Awards for its distinguished performance in the 'Excellence in Healthcare Awards.'

Collaborating closely with the trust, Salford Professional Development meticulously designed a tailored course to address their specific requirements. This involved integrating content from our existing Strategic Healthcare Leadership course and combining with the NHS and trust's core values to ensure value for all participants. Facilitated by Keith Straughn, an executive coach and consultant with Professorships in Digital Healthcare (Vienna), International Education (Kuala Lumpur), and Design Engineering (London), the course garnered praise from Programme Lead Maureen Sango-Jackson, who praised Mr. Straughn as "one of the greatest trainers of all time" for his charisma and captivating teaching style.

The trust's objective was to develop a course imparting high-level strategies to enhance the skills of middle management staff aspiring to become senior leaders. Although the trust offers in-house training with lower-level leadership courses, they entrusted Salford Professional Development to create and deliver a course tailored for more senior delegates.

Salford Professional Development successfully conducted the Strategic Healthcare Leadership Course on-site for a substantial number of delegates, with the aim to meet the specific needs of the trust. This three-day program, focusing on accelerating leadership practice, enhancing resilience, and addressing transformative challenges in the healthcare sector, proved highly beneficial for senior leaders within the NHS. The trust noted the benefit of their VUCA learning (which stands for volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity) was very relevant and applicable to their delegates.

We received an array of positive feedback from delegates who underwent the course. Including Maureen Sango-Jackson, the Learning and Development Programme lead for the trust, who said of the course.

Whilst I’d already completed an MA HRM Leadership and development programme  and postgraduate course , this is really a more up-to-date programme and I just felt that I could apply it with my current role with the content that was used within the programme’.

Karen Evans, the Academy Lead for the trust, said of her experience.

‘I think it’s been extremely beneficial; it has enabled me to identify different leadership styles and the associated domains that go along with those styles in a strategic healthcare context. It’s also helped me understand emotional intelligence and how to build resilience both in myself and in my team and ultimately, it’s really helped guide me on how to lead on change.

Our knowledge and experience in providing excellent courses has only strengthened by delivering courses to over 9,000 clients per year and selecting the most knowledgeable tutors to deliver the courses to a variety of different clients. Through partnering with the Central London Community Healthcare Trust their feedback upon the course was extremely positive and following completion they have enrolled more of their staff members to undergo the course in 2024.
