Prof Samia Nefti-Meziani holds a chair in Robotics and is the Director of the Centre for Autonomous Systems and Advanced Robotics at the University of Salford. With a well-established track record and a leading expert internationally in advanced robotics and artificial Intelligence.
Prof Nefti-Meziani has 25 years’ experience in pursuing advanced theoretical research in the areas of embodied intelligence, cognitive systems and soft computing. The focus of her contribution is in the development of concepts, and their application to wider practical problems including modelling, control, design evaluation of human perception and to a wide variety of other smart technologies and vehicles including UAVs, UGVs, . The rigorous quality of Prof Nefti-Meziani’s publications is evidenced their high impact factors such as IEEE Trans FS, Expert systems with applications, Soft Robotics, Autonomous systems and Robotics, Applied Soft Computing, etc, The high quality of her research is recognized not only at a theoretical level but also for its application value; this is evidenced by the number of grants secured, including the Coordination of a Marie Curie Network SMART-E ITN. Prof Nefti-Meziani is also the coordinator and CO-I of three further Major national programmes in Autonomous systems and robotics funded by the National research council and the technology strategy board worth more than £14M. This has attracted significant national media coverage on Sky, the BBC, ITV, Granada and other media outlets.
With extensive experience as the Director of an international industrial sponsored postgraduate programmes in robotics. Previously Prof Samia Nefti-Meziani was the Director of the doctoral school of the 6* IRIS Research Institute and has graduated more than 30 PhDs. Currently Prof Nefti-Meziani is Vice Chairman of IEEE Robotics and Automation UK & RI, Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems and a member of the advisory board of the UK research council EPSRC centre.
Prof Nefti-Meziani is a founding member of the Northern Robotics Network (part of RAS SIG) and has been focusing at developing the cross sectorial cluster in RAS for extreme environment; collecting and aligning key challenges across a range of sectors, industrial issues and common ground challenges which may form the basis for cross-sectorial collaboration and allow for the cooperative research with development.
