We enable communities to navigate challenges, adapt to change, and flourish through creative problem-solving by working together to co-create innovate research agendas which lead to collaborative solutions.
Activity within this theme recognises the significance of cultural identity, social connections, and collaborative efforts in enhancing resilience. Our research looks to draw on the collective strength and adaptability of communities to build a foundation for sustained wellbeing.
Social capital, networks, and the promotion of community wellbeing beyond economic indicators are key components of our work. Our researchers are helping policymakers understand the role of community-based disaster preparedness, exploring the built environment's influence on community structures and collaboration, and investigating urban and rural dynamics in order to develop approaches that catalyse cultural change.
The impact of our work to help communities across the global to thrive aligns strongly with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals on Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Good Health and Wellbeing (SDG 3), and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16).
