University of Salford hosts Health Innovation Festival

Categories: School of Health and Society

Businesses and organisations who work in the health and care sectors from across the North of England are being invited to tour the University of Salford’s world class  facilities and meet academics next week.

Professor Jane McAdam, Associate Dean for Enterprise and Engagement  at the University says the Health Innovation Festival on 7 February will highlight the incredible expertise and facilities which the University of Salford has to offer.

“To support our research, innovation and teaching portfolio we have developed world class facilities, and we now want to meet potential partners across the North, who may want to work with us – whether that is collaborating with our leading academics to develop new ideas or using our clinical spaces for training and experimentation.”

Working with Health Innovation Manchester, the University is opening its doors to its unique laboratories and clinical spaces, including the North of England Robotics Innovation Centre.

Tours will be given of the University’s brand new Centre for Medical Imaging, the multi-million pound radiography facility which will, in future, be used for outpatient referrals and examinations.

Claire Lomax is Head of Acoustics and will talk about how sound can impact health in the University’s state of the art anechoic chamber – reputed to be the quietest room in Europe!

And Dr Heather Yates, Reader at the School of Science Engineering and Environment will talk about her fascinating work developing new coatings which help to stop the spread of diseases through touch.

Dr Lloyd Gregory, Academic Partnerships Director at Health Innovation Manchester says:

“I have been so impressed with the expertise and facilities across the University of Salford, and I am absolutely delighted to see them showcasing these to potential partners, researchers and collaborators. The health and care applications are enormous. We can’t wait to welcome all our delegates onto campus, it is certainly going to be an exciting and busy day!”
