Categories: School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology

University of Salford students have walked away with seven awards from two national radio and television award ceremonies this month.

First up, Salford students took home three gongs at the highly-anticipated National Student Television Association Awards (NaSTA), which was hosted collaboratively by the University's Shock TV & Quays TV and The University of Manchester's student television network Fuse TV in the first ever joint-hosted event, with the awards ceremony taking place at Imperial War Museum North.

Shock TV were presented with the Gold Award for Directing as well as a Silver Award for their title sequence. Quays TV then followed suit by winning a Bronze Award for News & Current Affairs.

Joe Lander, Host Officer for NaSTA 2024 and BA Television and Radio Production student, said: "I'm incredibly proud of how the weekend came about. It's the first time in NaSTA’s 51-year history that three student stations have simultaneously and collaboratively hosted the weekend.

"I truly believe we managed to pull it off in such a perfect way that it not only produced one of the best weekends that many of us have experienced, but also helped create incredible bonds between all three stations that I know will last forever!

"I'm incredibly proud to have seen Shock TV win a NaSTA, it’s not an easy thing to do, but the sheer level by which our content has stepped up in the past year is astonishing. Everyone should be immensely proud of what we have been able to achieve."

Storm Tai, Head of Shock TV, added: “It was an emotional moment and an absolute honour. We’ve put in so much work and effort over the past year and this definitely shows that it has all paid off. This is a massive step forward for us as a whole."

Following on from the wins, Shock's Radio team then headed to the Student Radio Amplify Awards 2024 in Leeds where they won Gold and Bronze awards for ‘Best Promotional Initiative’, Silver in ‘Best Training Initiative’ and Silver in ‘Best Contribution to the Region’.
