Welcome to your University of Salford Open Day

SATURDAY 22 January 2022
09:30 - 15:00

We’re so excited to welcome you to our Open Day and can't wait to show your our campuses – Peel Park, Frederick Road and MediaCity.

There's a lot to see and do at an Open Day, so make sure you use the resources on this page to plan your visit in advance. Most of the sessions are repeated throughout the day so if you plan it well you won’t have to miss out on anything important to you.

Our Pro Vice-Chancellor for Student Experience, Dr Sam Grogan, has recorded a short video to introduce the event and, hopefully, start to get you excited about your visit to campus. Check it out below!

Welcome talk

Plan Your Day

Step 1 - Open Day guide

Download a copy of the Guide to find out about everything happening at the Open Day. This will give you more information on everything we have to offer, from course sessions to additional drop-in sessions and where they are taking place. You can pick up a copy of the guide and a campus map when you arrive on campus too!

If you'd already booked onto the event before 6 January, the content of the guide has been updated. Please download the updated version.

Step 2 - Where to go

The University has three campus sites, Peel Park, Frederick Road and MediaCity. We have allocated check-in locations based on where your course is taught, to ensure you get to your course sessions on time. Use the drop-down below to find the location of check-in and talks for your chosen subject.

Step 3 - Plan your day

Have a look at the below ‘What to do when you arrive on campus’ section for some suggestions of what to include in your visit. To ensure you get to do everything you’d like to, nearly every session will be delivered multiple times throughout the day, but the more you want to do during your visit, the more important it is to plan out your day before you arrive. There is a blank itinerary for you to create your own schedule for the day in the guide.

What to do when you arrive on campus

  • Check in - The first thing to do when you arrive on campus is to head to your designated check-in point and collect your copy of the guide. Check-in points vary by course, so use the drop-down above to find the correct one. If you're attending more than one subject talk you only need to check-in once. You can see where the locations are on the map below.
  • Attend your course session - we recommend that you tailor your day around your course session times. Sessions are repeated throughout the day so you can attend a number of sessions. Morning sessions will likely be busier, so we may need to limit the number of attendees to allow us to maintain social distancing. Consider whether you can attend other sessions first before joining a later course session.
  • Book a campus tour - book on to one of our student led tours to give you an insight of where you will be studying. Ask us when you check-in for further information on where to book on.
  • Accommodation - Our accommodation sites on Peel Park Quarter, John Lester and Eddie Coleman will all be open for you to have a look around. All are walkable distances but there will also be a coach taking you between the locations. To view the show flat and communal areas at our Peel Park Quarter site, you'll need to book a time slot at either Peel Park, Frederick Road or MediaCity campus tour desks. Or drop in to see our show flat at John Lester and Eddie Coleman throughout the event - no booking required.
  • Presentations - would you like some help with your personal statement or advice on finance for whilst you’re studying?  Are you a mature student or would you like to find out more about Salford’s LGBTQIA* community? There are lots of sessions planned throughout the day to help you decide whether Salford is right for you.
  • Drop in sessions - have you ever wanted to learn a language or new sport alongside your study? Head to the drop in sessions at the Clifford Whitworth Library - on Peel Park Campus - for further information.

Health and Safety On Campus

Safety measures at the Open Day include:
  • Mandatory face coverings indoors unless exempt
  • 1m+ distancing in place throughout
  • Capping bookings in line with room capacities
  • Hand sanitiser stations

We would also encourage all visitors to take a lateral flow test before attending.

On campus

As part of our safety measures, we would ask that all visitors, staff and students maintain a distance of 1m throughout the event. Rooms and presentations have been set up on this basis, and we may therefore restrict numbers for some sessions. We will have sanitisation points near building entrances, regular cleaning of high-touch points and plenty of signage to remind everyone of these guidelines

Some courses may require you to book onto tours of facilities – please check the Open Day guide and at the check-in desk for more details.

Face coverings

Following the Government announcement, we require everyone to wear a face covering when moving around inside our buildings on campus, in corridors and circulation spaces, unless exempt. You can find out more about circumstances where people may not be able to wear a face covering here

Your risk factors

Before coming onto campus, please consider if you fall into a higher risk category for Covid-19. We have provided a link here that provides some further information on who would be considered a higher risk. Whilst we're taking measures to ensure the safety of everyone on campus, if you fall into one or more of these categories, please consider whether it is suitable for you to come along to this event.

If you develop Covid-19 symptoms

If you have booked a place but develop Covid-19 symptoms before you are due to visit, please stay at home and do not visit our campus. Symptoms of Covid-19 can be found here.

Chat with our current students

Many of our students will be supporting the Open Day - some in course sessions and others around campus in their fetching red hoodies - so be sure to ask them about their student experience!

In the meantime feel free to chat with our students here and ask any questions you may have about their university experience. Click the arrow on the right to move through the student profiles.
