Why should you study Sport Rehabilitation at the University of Salford?
When you graduate, you'll be eligible for membership of the British Association of Sports Rehabilitators and Trainers (BASRaT).
We have strong partnerships with top sports clubs in the North West including Salford Red Devils, Sale Sharks, Manchester City Football Club and Manchester Storm. You will have the opportunity to work alongside our partners in various fields.
You will experience a variety of settings on placement such as hospitals with orthopedic consultants, GP practices, the Ministry of Defense, private sport rehabilitation and physiotherapy clinics among others.
Sports Injury Clinic
Our sports injury clinic provides valuable practical experience for you to practice your skills under the direct supervision of qualified staff. The clinic is open to staff, students and the general public and offers a full range of rehabilitation services including:
- Injury assessment and rehabilitation
- Musculoskeletal screening
- Injury prevention courses
- Exercise and sport-specific courses
- Postural assessment
Human Performance Lab
Our world-class human performance lab contains almost every type of physiological and biomechanical testing equipment, including a 30-metre sprint track with in-built force platforms, motion cameras, blood and gas analysis equipment and speed guns. We also have a separate physiological testing laboratory and fully equipped strength and conditioning suite, which includes and isokinetic dynamometer and portable force platforms.
Gait Labs
The university is also home to three gait labs, which, together with the human performance lab, are used to conduct research that underpins your learning.

This course has received positive feedback from students and graduates. In last years National Student Survey, 92% of students said the staff made the course interesting and 92% said the course was intellectually stimulating (NSS data 2022).
From Salford to the States: Meet Sports Rehab student Aaron
BSc Sports Rehabilitation student Aaron Laughlin has been all the way to Florida for his placement, arranged whilst studying at the University of Salford. Hear about his experience here in Salford, and how he found working with major sports teams over in the USA.
"To graduate, I needed to complete at least 300 placement hours, which very kindly were organised by the university so I didn’t have to stress about getting placements all by myself. I had an internal placement in the university sports injury clinic where I assessed, diagnosed and treated patients under the supervision of the lectures that I knew which created 'a safe place' to learn. I also completed few external placements, where I was able to practice and test my knowledge and learn from experts."
What connections to industry do you have?
Manchester has the greatest density of professional sports teams in the country. We are lucky enough to have links with a number of them! Students currently enjoy placements and work experience locally at Sale Sharks, Salford Red Devils, Oldham FC and Wigan Warriors amongst many others. We also have placements further afield at Southampton FC and with Major League Baseball in the USA! The many partnerships help you to get a foot in the door for your chosen career whilst you are still studying, building your CV and networking contacts for when you leave university. We also support work in amateur sport and placements in teaching for those who wish to pursue a PGCE following their BSc degree. There are also lots of opportunities for volunteering and assisting with research.
What career paths are available from BSc Sports Rehabilitation?
Our graduates from Sport Rehabilitation go on to work in a variety of settings, including professional, semi-professional and amateur sport, private clinics, NHS, exercise referral and education. Sporting examples include Middlesbrough FC, Wolves, GB Basketball, GB Handball and GB cycling. A number will go on to further study, such as Masters in Physiotherapy, Strength & Conditioning or Public Health. Graduates who have gone down these routes include the current England football physiotherapist and the Head of Performance and Medicine at Liverpool FC. Another possible route is to study the Physicians Associate course and embark on a career in the NHS.
