What does it mean if my course is accredited?

Degree accreditation is acknowledgement, by an external body, that a programme meets a defined set of criteria. BSc (Hons) Building Surveying, BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and BSc (Hons) Real Estate Surveying are each accredited by external bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES).

How will I be assessed during my course?

Across our built environment programmes, students are assessed using a combination of methods, including design projects, essays, precedent studies, case study analysis and examinations.

What is an accelerated degree course?

Many of our built environment courses are available with an accelerated study option, which makes it possible to study and complete your chosen course faster than on a standard full-time pathway. Accelerated study is more intense, but the rewards are worth it.

With an accelerated degree, you study the same course content as a standard three year degree, but do it in a different way. By including an additional summer term to create three trimesters, you can flex the traditional academic year and complete the course content more quickly.

We also offer an accelerated day release pathway which allows you to combine your degree study with existing work commitments and complete your course faster than the tradition part-time pathway.

Will the university help me to find work experience and industry placements?

Whilst you will be responsible for securing your own work experience and industry placements, our tutors will guide and support you through the process. We have links with a range of organisations in the property and construction industries, and will assist you in securing a placement.

We highly recommend that you include a placement year in your surveying studies. Industry experience enables you to apply your knowledge in real-world situations and also form those vital early career connections. 

What career opportunities will be open to me once I graduate?

There is a huge demand for qualified surveyors, project managers and construction technologists, both in the UK and internationally. As a trained professional, you can expect to find roles in a wide range of organisations, including construction companies, project management consultancies, and government departments.

Our built environment alumni have progressed on to work at leading industry organisations, including: Lend Lease, Kier, Laing O'Rourke, Simons Construction Ltd, Balfour Beatty, Gleeds Construction Consultants, National Grid, Deloitte Real Estate, Savills and Skanska.
