Training on gender and identity for all colleagues
Join us for a fast-paced creative session designed to help you accelerate the pace of change towards trans inclusion across the university.
Arron Pile, Student Inclusion & Diversity Manager in askUS said, “Trans people still face significant barriers and discrimination in an H.E setting. Much of this is about a lack of understanding or a fear of getting things wrong. We want to ensure that all out staff are trans and non-binary confident so all our students feel included in university life. This training is particularly important for all front line staff, so if this is you please book a place.”

Each half-day session will guide colleagues to develop a broader understanding of how gender affects our lives. It will particularly focus on how culture, behaviour and processes can exclude and limit the potential of trans colleagues and students. The workshop will provide a safe space to explore and understand inclusive language and the positive actions which both individuals and University services as a whole can deliver.
Attendees will leave more confident about how to support vulnerable trans students in crisis, help contribute towards developing an empowering environment for trans staff and students across campus and to better understand the inequalities and barriers trans people can face when navigating our University and wider society. Sessions are open to all colleagues, but it is particularly important for teams from security, askUS, front line school colleagues, reception, students’ union and Campus Living Villages’ staff.

The sessions are being delivered by award-winning Leadership and Inclusion Consultant Tara Hewitt. Tara is co-founder of the Trans Equality Legal Initiative and currently Equality & Diversity Lead for one of the largest NHS Trusts in England.
