Student nurse shortlisted for prestigious national award
Final year student Lucy Gardner is in line to scoop a national award after she was shortlisted by the prestigious Student Nursing Times Awards 2016.
Lucy, a children and young people’s nursing student, has been nominated in the ‘Student Nurse of the Year: Children’ category along with nine other students from universities across the country.
The student nurse has gone above and beyond during her studies, spending time working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Uganda and running a Twitter account alongside four qualified nurses from across the UK.
In fact so much so is Lucy’s commitment to extracurricular work that she actually found out that she had made the shortlist while volunteering at the We Get Together 2016 conference.
She said: “I was really overwhelmed when I found out I’d been shortlisted and felt extremely humbled to be shortlisted amongst, what I’m sure, are amazing student nurses from across the UK.”
This isn’t the first time a University of Salford nurse has been shortlisted and it was the success of Katie Sutton in reaching the final stage of the Most Inspirational Student Nurse of the Year in 2015 that gave Lucy the confidence to apply.
Lucy will qualify officially as a nurse in March 2017 and hopes to go on to acquire employment in a specialist children’s hospital within the UK.
The awards take place on Thursday 28 April at the London Hilton Hotel. Good luck Lucy!
