How resilient are you?
Can you deal with getting a mark lower than you hoped for? Can you bounce back to do better next time?
If you’re interested in measuring your resilience and finding out methods to build it, a new workshop being run by the Library’s Skills for Learning team might be perfect for you.
Viv Bell, Academic Skills Consultant at the Library, has worked with the School of Health and Society’s Dr Simon Cassidy to put together the new Academic Resilience Workshop.
The session will look at what academic resilience is, and what you can do to boost your resilience and make the most of every academic opportunity you get here at Salford.
The Library’s Skills for Learning team created these workshops after realising the topics covered in it were coming up frequently in student one-to-one sessions and queries lodged with the team.
Viv said: “We realised there was a bit of a gap in the offering from Skills for Learning, so wanted to address that.”
She worked with senior psychology lecturer Dr Simon Cassidy to formulate the sessions.
He said: “Recognising that students face very particular challenges, we have focused our efforts on modelling resilience in students, referred to as academic resilience, and exploring how to develop their resilience to help them cope with the inevitable challenges of academic life.
“Greater resilience may help students reach their academic goals and be happier doing so.
“The resilience workshops are a good first step, providing the skills and resources to help students reflect on and build their resilience.”
The first of these new workshops will be held on Wednesday, February 6th, 1-3pm in Peel LG07 and will be repeated on:
5th March, 10am-12pm in Peel 331
4th April, 1-3pm in Mary Seacole 175
