Your new Student Hub is launching

Your gateway for all things student is launching soon. Access many of the systems you use in one place and quickly find links, information and resources for University support and other services.

We've been busy: we've created a dynamic student intranet for most of the systems you regularly use: the Student Hub. The Student Hub makes it easier for you to learn, communicate, engage with your university and collaborate. We've put your most-used University systems in one place along with the support services you regularly access (we checked the analytics to be certain) and we've incorporated student feedback to make the Hub accessible, relevant and useful.

The Student Hub will officially go live in mid-August and will be available as your home page when you log on to any University PC. You'll need to log in with your student email address to access it. You can also access it off-campus and on your own devices by heading to once the Student Hub has been fully launched.

You have easy access to a wider range of Office365 tools like Outlook and OneDrive as well as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more within the Student Hub. You can also find quick links to Blackboard, which you'll continue using for your assessments, announcements and learning materials. In addition, we're introducing some additional new systems this year to help you visualise your attendance and engagement with modules:

  • Jigsaw is the system we use to bring together all the pieces of information that build up the picture of your engagement. It is designed to help you to understand how well you are doing and highlight if you may be in need of any additional support. The online portal allows you to help take control and improve your learning experience.
  • UoS Check In is our new attendance monitoring app. You will need to record your own attendance in the app at timetabled sessions within the first thirty minutes of the session. You'll receive more information on this closer to the start of term.

For now, take a look around the new Student Hub before it takes its place as the student homepage.

You will need to log in with your student email to access it. If you have any feedback, be sure to let us know by using the feedback form to which we've linked at the top of the Student Hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we getting a new student intranet?
Our old Student Channel was outdated and quite limited in terms of what content we were able to provide for you. The Student Hub is your gateway for many of the systems you regularly use as a student, making it easier for you to learn, communicate and collaborate. Navigation has been improved and we’ve used student feedback to make sure that the systems you use most are available straight away when you log on.

  • Access to Blackboard, library services and the student portal, as well as great new systems like Jigsaw and UoS Check In
  • Access to our Office 365 tools, including OneDrive, Outlook and more
  • Specialised sections for a range of university departments
  • A more secure space to share and collaborate

How can I access the Student Hub?
The Student Hub is going live in mid-August – look out for an email to your university email address to let you know when it has launched. When accessing the Student Hub you will need to log in with your University email address and password. You’ll need to do this for each browser and/or PC you log in to.

What is happening to the old student channel?
You will be able to find a link to the old student channel at the bottom of the Student Hub homepage. This will stay live during the start of Trimester 1 but will be archived at a later date.

I have a story for the Student Hub, who do I contact?
Our Student Communications team would love to hear from you!

Can anyone else see 'My Recent Documents' on their view of the Student Hub?
No, only you can see these documents as this view is unique for each user. Office 365 is integrated with the Hub, which is why we’re able to display your most recent documents.

How do I reset my password?
If you have forgotten your password you can reset it by visiting this page.

If I encounter any technical errors who should I contact?
If you have any technical issues, these can be reported to our Digital IT service desk in the usual way, either online through the Service Portal, or by calling 0161 295 2444 during office hours. You can find out more about how to use the Service Portal here.
