Students interview leading TV personalities at prestigious Asian Media Awards

Two of our students, Tom Percival and Gorana Jelovina, interviewed some of the UK’s most well-known TV personalities, broadcasters and journalists at the Asian Media Awards last Thursday (October 29 2015).

The two Journalism MA students interviewed all the winners, including ITV news broadcaster Ranvir Singh who scooped the ‘Media Personality of the year’ award on the night. The students also interviewed all nominees and celebrities as they arrived at the star-studded event.

Five other students also helped out on the night. These students came from a range of disciplines and we'd like to say well done to Alex Worthing, Siobhan Maguire, Rebecca Scott, Josh Boyd and Liam Funnell for their hard work.

Umbreen Ali, the Media manager for the awards, praised all the students for their ‘unparalleled’ professionalism and said that they were 'proud to have them on the blue carpet.'

Tom, 25, from Salford, said: “It was an honour to cover the Asian Media Awards for the University of Salford and a fantastic opportunity to put in to practice some of the skills I've learnt this year.”

Gorana, 22, added: "I absolutely loved reporting at the Asian Media Awards. It was amazing to meet so many industry guests and nominees, who are at the top of their profession, and to get an insight into what they do."

The star-studded ceremony sponsored by the University of Salford was hosted by Sky News presenter Jannat Jalil and took place at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate.

The University of Salford were premier sponsors for the 2015 ceremony and the shortlist announcement held at the ITV Studios in London in September.
