Raise money for cancer charity by taking part in 5k Vice-Chancellor fun run

You can raise money for local children’s charity Kidscan by running the 5k Vice-Chancellor fun run here on campus.

Participants can join the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Helen Marshall, by running, walking or jogging their way to the finish line, which will be reached through Peel Park campus, across David Lewis Playing Fields and the historic Peel Park itself.

Daley O’Neal from the Sports Centre, part of the team co-ordinating the event, hopes to beat the amount raised for Kidscan at last year’s fun run.

He said: “We hope to build on 2016’s tremendously successful event, by generating even more money for our official charity, in addition to getting more people involved. More than 105 people signed up last year and we raised more than £1,500 so we’re aiming to go bigger and better in our 50th year!”

Professor Helen Marshall, the Vice-Chancellor, echoed Daley’s comments adding that it would be great to see as many as people as possible taking part in the university’s 50th year.

She said: “Through Sport and Wellbeing activities we are able to come together for a great cause and create a great sense of community on campus, in this our 50th year. The 5k run has proved to be a great way of achieving these aims and I even braved the snow to do it last year, so I hope that even more of you will participate in our traditional sporting event this Friday 28 April.  I will be there, whatever the weather, and look forward to seeing you.”

It costs just £8 to enter and all proceeds go to Kidscan. Signup here.

The event is sponsored by SALFOOD and additional support is being provided by Santander Universities and Sports Tours UK.
