2019 has begun, and a new year means new goals and more importantly, new experiences. A new semester provides plenty of opportunities for these. Whether you’re a returning student or starting anew, it’s time to look ahead at all the exciting memories you will make at university. Starting in a new place can also be difficult, that’s why we’ve decided to put together a post that will help you navigate your way through uni-life and enjoy your time at Salford!

Meeting new people is a big part of what university can offer and you’ll have the chance to make new friends. The university has a whole host of societies so there’s sure to be something for everyone from fundraising societies to subject-specific ones which can also help you make friends who may be on your course. The full list can be viewed here on the Union website: If you’re a sport fan, you can take part in a range of different activities. Give Sport a Go run a range of different sport activities throughout the week including badminton and football. These are more casual classes you can attend without commitment. If you fancy being competitive, you can even play different sports as part of a Campus League against different groups within the university.

You’ll also have the chance to make new friends through the different activities that will be on offer from 21-27 January. Fancy gaining some skills in the process? Food and drink classes are also on offer which will sharpen up your cooking skills. On Wednesday 23rd, you can take part in a pizza cooking class which will be held in the Atmosphere Kitchen & Bar. You can also attend a Mocktails class on the following Thursday in the same place. See the events list for details of how to book onto these:

University can also seem like a big place, but you can get shown around by some of our own friendly students who are here to help. Regular tours are running from 21st January to the 1st of February of the University campuses, including MediaCityUK. You can also get a tour of the shopping facilities in Salford, to get clued up on the best places to get food and the best bargains. To see a full list of the times and meeting spots, click here:

Wondering what else there is to do outside of university? You can also visit the Arndale shopping centre in the City Centre or visit the Trafford Centre which is a bus ride away from the university on the number 100. You can also visit Salford Quays and MediaCityUK for a day out which are in close range of each other. Manchester also has a vibrant nightlife scene, keep an eye out for student nights and student deals on food and drinks.
