Graduate collects £500 prize for completing Destinations Survey

Nursing graduate Andy Goldstraw won £500 of High Street Vouchers for taking just ten minutes to complete the Destinations of Leaver’s of Higher Education survey when he received his invitation earlier this year.

Andy, who graduated BSc Adult Nursing in 2016, was selected at random from everyone who completed the 2016-17 Destinations of Leavers of Higher Education (DLHE) survey from January to May this year.  DLHE is a national survey which all universities are obliged to conduct on behalf of the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). It is used to find out what graduates are doing six months after leaving university. Graduates answer questions about their employment circumstances and whether they have gone on to further study.

The 35-year-old from Tameside is now employed as a Staff Nurse at Manchester Royal Infirmary and says of his time at Salford that he felt well supported and was glad he chose Salford as it exceeded his expectations.  When presented with the vouchers by Nicole Holt, Associate Director of Student Experience and Support, Andy said he was delighted to have won and he plans to use the vouchers to treat his mum.

Andy was one of over 5,500 graduates who were eligible to take the survey and he completed it when he received the email invitation, saying “it took less than 10 minutes, it was really simple”.

Everyone who receives an award from the University of Salford is asked to complete DLHE around 6 months after their programme ends and HESA require all institutions to collect at least 70% responses from UK undergraduates.  The data is used by various newspapers in their league tables. The most used and well known league table is the Times Good University Guide which rates universities across a range of measures including Graduate Prospects.  DLHE accounts for 25% of the score in the Times Subject League Tables.

The university currently offers a £500 prize each year as an incentive to complete DLHE, with previous year’s prizes including an iPad and multiple prizes of £50 shopping vouchers.

For a chance to win next year’s £500 prize, keep an eye on @UoSCareers for updates on when you will be required to complete #SalfordDLHE and make sure your contact details are up to date.

You too could win £500 for just ten minutes of your time.
