In all, some 480,000 Allied forces took part in the Gallipoli Campaign, at a cost of more than 250,000 casualties, including some 46,000 dead. On the Turkish side, the campaign also cost an estimated 250,000 casualties, with 65,000 killed.

In 1915 the Lancashire Fusiliers famously won six Victoria Crosses in the battle of Gallipoli – 6VC’s before breakfast’. This achievement has been celebrated and remembered ever since with church services and parades taking place every year.

During the Fusiliers 50 celebrations this April, the 5th Fusiliers Regiment will exercise the Freedom of City awarded in 1947 and again in 1975,  in commemoration of the campaign and the heavy military and civilian  casualties on both sides.

The Salute at 3.00pm will to be taken by the Mr Paul Griffiths, Vice Lord-Lieutenant, His Worship the Mayor of Salford, Cllr Peter Connor and the Colonel of the Regiment.
