As part of the University of Salford’s commitment to reduce scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 81% by 2030/31 (from 2005/05 levels), the Estates and Facilities department will be instigating the annual boiler switch off from week commencing 20th May 2019.

This will only affect the space heating systems and all hot water will still be available as usual. With the weather forecasts showing warm weather predicted for the coming weeks, it has been calculated that this will be the ideal time to switch off the heating systems as they will not be required to maintain comfort settings within the campus buildings.

During this year’s annual shutdown, new high efficiency boilers and associated circulation systems are to be installed in both the Peel and Chapman buildings. These upgrade works are necessary to ensure more reliable and efficient heating as well as reducing our carbon footprint.
