Bag and Mobile Phone theft - please be vigilant
There has been a rise in theft in and around the A6 corridor area of Salford, from Irlam o’th Heights to Manchester. Typically this has been mobile phone theft but two incidents of bag thefts have also been reported in the past 24 hours.
There have been reports of thieves on pedal cycles or mopeds cycling beside people and snatching their phones. There has also been a theft from a briefly unattended delivery van. Thefts are happening in daylight hours as well as darkness.
Head of Security Trevor Jones said: “Could I ask that everyone is extra vigilant and protect their own property when walking in this area. Please report suspicious behaviour to security on 0161 295 4773.”
Tips to keep your belongings safe
- Try not to have your phone in your hand for extended periods of time – it’s easy to get distracted by reading texts or browsing the web.
- Keep headphones wires tucked away so there’s less chance of someone grabbing them.
- Be aware of your surroundings, especially people on bikes or mopeds who seem to be circling the area.
- If possible, activate your phone’s tracker now. Search online or get in touch with your phone manufacturer if you’re not sure how. The police almost caught an offender recently thanks to this feature, so it’s worth using.
We’re continuing to work closely with the Police to catch the offenders.
