7 Simple Ways to Cope With Stress Due to Deadlines

It might feel as though the academic year has only just begun, but as Winter approaches, so do the assignments and exams. Here at The University of Salford, we want your University experience to be as stress free as possible. We’ve rounded up our top tips to combat stress and keep your mental health on track.

  1. Make a Priority List

    Before you begin, make a priority list. Figure out what needs to be done first and stick to one thing at a time. If you’re doing 3 things at once, it’s a lot easier to get distracted. If you have it all written out in front of you, you’ll instantly feel more organised and know exactly where you’re up to. Plus there’s NOTHING better than crossing off something on a to-do list.

  2. Uniskills

    Take advantage of Uniskills, a short online course designed to develop your study skills and help you achieve the best possible results. The course has loads of handy tips to help you study efficiently and effectively.

  3. Take Regular Breaks

    Taking regular short breaks every 90 minutes or so improves productivity and allows your mind to reset. Put down the books and make a cup of tea and take 10-15 minutes to recharge. Watch a bit of TV, catch up on social media or simply sit and relax. Just make sure you don’t get too distracted or you might end up having a break for the rest of the day!

  4. Listen to Podcasts

    Podcasts are a great way to get motivated and hear other people’s stories. There are hundreds of free ones through Spotify and Apple Podcasts  and there’s something for everyone. Listen to them on the way to class or before bed and you’ll see yourself feeling a little bit more inspired. Our favourites are College Student Success Student and Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place.

  5. Get Plenty of Sleep

    As tempting as it might be to pull all nighters to get that essay written or book read, it’ll leave you feeling fatigued, irritable and you’re not going to perform at your best. It’s much better to get an early night before taking the next day by storm than staying up all night and being cranky and unfocused the day after.

  6. Give Sport A Go

    The Sports Centre (located on main campus facing Peel Park Quarter accommodation), offers a brilliant sports timetable. When you exercise, your body releases  endorphins which triggers a positive feeling in your body, so what’s better than combating stress while having fun and getting fit?! Many of the activities are free, including badminton, running and yoga.

  7. Talk About It
