Venues and Facilities
The UK public sector spends more than £240 billion procuring goods and services, accounting for a third of all public spending. The Cabinet Office’s commitment to increase the number of contracts awarded to SMEs could create an extra £3 billion of business for the country’s smaller employers.
Since the economic downturn of 2008, local authorities have had to manage increasingly difficult socio-economic conditions with decreasing budgets from central government. This has resulted in a drive towards achieving greater value for money through a more innovative and dynamic approach to procurement and commissioning.
In addition to this, the vote to leave the European Union presents a number of challenges and opportunities for public sector procurement. EU laws and regulations will need to be replicated in order to prevent fraud and mismanagement of public funds. However, freedom from competition rules will give Government and local authorities the chance to support local businesses.
Initiatives such as the Digital Marketplace are already making it easier for smaller private sector IT firms to offer their services to Government departments.
Join us for the Public Procurement Conference where our panel of expert speakers will explain how these recent developments will affect local authorities across England.
