Salford in the South

General Banner image

We have two members of our team based in the south of England and support hundreds of school and college events in the region each year. If your school or college are looking to broaden the outlook of your students then we would be delighted to visit and talk about the many benefits of moving to the north-west of England and Salford in particular.

Students and parents are often delighted to learn of the cheaper costs of living in the north and the wide range of opportunities available to students moving away from home. We offer a wide range of presentations and talks in person and also have a wide range of online presentations and events which you can access at any time.

Meet the team

Sophie Threlfall, Southern Recruitment Officer

Sophie has worked in education since leaving university. A former teacher and international hotel entertainer, she now loves being part of the Marketing, Recruitment and External Relations team at Salford. Originally from East Grinstead in West Sussex, she lived in Manchester for 10 years before returning to her roots to establish the southern recruitment strategy for the team.

In her spare time Sophie enjoys going to music gigs, travelling and hosting dinner parties for friends and family. She's a keen swimmer, completely animal obsessed and volunteers for Guide Dogs. If she’s not busy doing DIY renovation projects you’re most likely to find her walking her labrador Maisie up on Ashdown Forest or braving Eastbourne sea or Barcombe Mills for a swim!

If you would like to get in contact with Sophie directly to find out about the support we can offer to your students, please contact her on s.a.threlfall@salford.ac.uk and she will be happy to assist.

Finnuala Jenkins, Southern Recruitment Assistant

Finnuala has worked within Student Support and Recruitment since leaving university, with over 4 years experience at several universities across the country. Originally from Cardiff, she lived in the north-west for 7 years before moving to the south-east.

Now based in Southend-on-Sea, Finnuala enjoys making the most of the sea air with walks along the beach and trips to the pier. She also loves travelling around the country to spend quality time with her friends and family. If you can’t find her sat on the beach with an ice cream, she is normally getting lost in a good book.

If you would like to get in contact with Finnuala directly to find out about the support we can offer to your students, please do email her on f.k.jenkins@salford.ac.uk and she will be happy to help.

Annual London Teacher & Careers Advisor Conference

Southern Teachers Conference

In 2019 we hosted our first ever southern teachers' and advisors' conference. The event was held at Churchill War Rooms in Westminster, London. We had an introduction from our Dean of Students followed by academic speakers from Broadcast Media, Careers alternative to Medicine, Performing Arts, Business and our fantastic Alumni Speaker.

We were absolutely delighted with the support and feedback we received from delegates and are excited to welcome even more teachers and careers advisors to our next London conference where we will showcase more of the exciting courses and opportunities available at Salford.

Please check back to find out details for our upcoming London conferences.
