BSc (Hons) Psychology
This course is designed to provide you with in-depth knowledge and opportunities for learning a wide range of psychological concepts. It has a hands-on approach to developing research skills and encourages you to apply the theory to real-world settings.
You will learn about the core areas of psychology; biological, cognitive, developmental, social and individual differences and as part of the programme, you will be able to choose from optional modules, allowing you to explore areas of particular interest to you.

BSc (Hons) Psychology and Counselling
This degree is designed to provide you with a thorough grounding in the theory and application of both psychology and counselling. The emphasis is on innovation and learning through a variety of styles that have widespread use, while developing key skills and relevant practical experience. The counselling skills you gain will provide a basis for further study and training in counselling. Your final year supervised research project will allow you to explore an area of psychology of your choice.

BSc (Hons) Psychology and Criminology
Crime is one of the major problems facing society today. To understand the complex issues surrounding it, we have brought together two areas of study that have a natural affinity, giving you a degree that will help you make a real difference.
This course will provide training for careers in health, social care, criminal justice, and other public and social services. In your final year, you can tailor your degree with a range of optional modules, including a work placement.

BSc (Hons) Psychology of Human and Animal Behaviour
This exciting new programme aims to give you a thorough grounding in psychology and the behaviour of both human and non-human animals.
This is an applied programme and you will be investigating how a better understanding of animal behaviour can contribute to the health and wellbeing of humans, and how a knowledge of human behaviour can help us understand animal behaviour.
You will gain in-depth knowledge of a wide range of psychological concepts and will be able to use these to analyse human and animal behaviour from a variety of perspectives as well as enjoy field trip opportunities including Knowsley Safari Park and Chester Zoo

BSc (Hons) Psychology of Sport
This degree provides an excellent foundation for any student interested in a career as a psychologist with a particular focus on applying those skills in the broad areas of sport and exercise.
You will gain an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of psychological concepts and in particular how these concepts might be applied in a sporting context and develop a hands-on approach to developing research skills, applying theory to real-world settings

What Can We Offer You?
Our courses are accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). If you achieve a lower second class degree or above, Graduate Basis for Registration is awarded. This is important as it is the first step to becoming a chartered psychologist.
You will have opportunities to tailor your learning to your own interests through a work placement, optional modules and independent research projects
Access to our dedicated facilities including eye-tracking labs, a video game analysis lab, a cognitive neuroscience lab featuring VR equipment and an observation suite

WHAT WAS IT ABOUT THE PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAMME THAT WAS THE DECIDING FACTOR FOR YOU TO STUDY AT SALFORD?
Omayma: For us both, it was the choice of modules available to students – they all seemed really interesting and relevant. You can really narrow down what you love and create a pathway tailored to your future career.
Kingsley: The course didn’t appear to be repetitive, I like the fact that you have the freedom to choose the route you want to go down. Not to mention the placement option! Although I am yet to go on placement, it looks like a fantastic opportunity.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN SKILLS SALFORD HAS PROVIDED YOU WITH SO YOU’RE READY TO GO INTO THE SECTOR?
Omayma: So far, Salford has improved my ability to adapt to new situations through group work. Often you get to work with people you haven’t met before, take on leadership roles, work effectively as a group and also present in front of an audience. Aside from my course – I have found that Salford offers some amazing opportunities. I have voluntarily taken part in the Wordscope programme, which is designed to heighten your literacy skills. I have also worked with Rafiki (hosted by the Students’ Union) which is a great opportunity to put my people skills into practice.
Kingsley: I have found that Salford has helped me not just within the programme, but with aspects of everyday life. I have had opportunities to present work in front of an audience and improve my ability to work in a group. These confidence and communication skills have been, and will be, useful to me throughout my career.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ASPECT OF THE COURSE AND WHY?
Omayma: My favourite aspect would be how much of the content the course teaches is applicable to the real world – not just academically. It’s what university is all about, preparing you for the real thing and not just to satisfy a grade. I have also found the lecturers to be really supportive and great to go to for advice. I have noticed that the lecturer – student relationships are really strong which creates a great learning environment. The course has been diverse, with no repetitive modules, which has kept me interested and eager to learn.
Kingsley: For me, my favourite aspect has been writing reports. I have always found having the opportunity to go in-depth into a particular phenomenon really engaging and interesting. The lecturer feedback has been brilliant – allowing me to take the necessary steps to really improve my writing skills.
