Journalism Awards
The annual University of Salford Journalism Awards is back for its TENTH year!
After two years celebrating online, we are pleased to announce that this year’s ceremony will take place in person at the Salford Museum and Art Gallery on Thursday 19 May!
Only University of Salford Journalism and PR students or graduates, alongside staff and presenters, are eligible to attend.
Good luck to all our fantastic students! We will share details of the winners after the event, but you can read more about this year's amazing judges and the individual awards categories below.

1st Year Student Award
An award which recognises a student who has performed outstandingly during their first year on the course. Engaging fully with journalism, developing new skills and contributing full effort throughout the year.
2nd Year Student Award
An award which recognises a student who has performed outstandingly during their first and second year on the course. Engaging fully with journalism, developing new skills and contributing full effort throughout their studies.
3rd Year Student Award
An award which recognises a student who has performed outstandingly during their 1st, 2nd and 3rd years on the course. Engaging fully with journalism, developing new skills and contributing full effort throughout their studies.
Postgraduate Student Award
An award which recognises a student who has performed outstandingly during their postgraduate year on the course. Engaging fully with journalism or PR, developing new skills or contributing full effort throughout their studies.
Feature Writer of the Year Award
This award recognises a student who has written an outstanding original feature. This could include any subject such as; local interest, human interest, politics, celebrity, music etc.
Broadcast Journalist of the Year Award
This award recognises a student who has produced an outstanding piece of radio or television journalism.
Steve Panter Multimedia Journalist of the Year Award
This is an award for the best original news or feature article in multimedia journalism, produced in either print, magazine or online.
Sports Journalist of the Year Award
This is an award for the best piece of sports journalism across a range a of platforms, including television, radio, print or online.
Best PR of the Year Award
This is an award for the best piece of PR work, which could include campaigns, written proposals, press releases, presentations, infographics, social media or other.
Photojournalist of the Year Award
This is an award for the best piece of photojournalism, including specific photographs or a portfolio.
Eddie Lowey Award
This is the final prestigious award, chosen by our team of academic staff, for a student who has demonstrated complete dedication, ambition and determination throughout their time at Salford. Eddie Lowey helps to fund the Journalism Awards each year via his Lady Monica Cockfield Memorial Fund.
