Salford Institute for Dementia and Ageing

The Salford Institute for Dementia and Ageing was launched in 2014 as the Salford Institute for Dementia to conduct vital research and community engagement work into living well with dementia. Our work focuses on the challenges faced by people living with dementia and their care partners and seeks to improve their lives in positive and meaningful ways. In May 2017 we opened the doors to our purpose refit Hub offering a space for us to work and run groups for people living with dementia and care partners living in the Greater Manchester area.

Over time the work at the University has developed to explore Ageing and we, in recognition of this, were renamed as the Salford Institute for Dementia and Ageing in December 2020.

Dementia Hub Launch Event

Proud to Believe in a Life Beyond Dementia

Funded by the generosity of our alumni, supporters and friends, the Salford Institute for Dementia’s Hub runs gardening and music clubs, as well as café sessions to provide those living with Dementia with some support, advice, and a place to go and have a chat with those who are going through the same challenges. These have become a social lifeline to our associates and members of the community here in the North West, as well as a fantastic opportunity to join together and learn new skills. During covid times we moved to virtual support but in July we re-opened our doors to in-person meetings.

If you would like to help to improve the lives of those living with dementia today, please make a donation to support our vital work and improve the care and support provided to people living with dementia, their carers, and family.
