We understand that moving from school or college to University can seem a big step. Just as returning to education as a mature student can seem daunting. But there are lots of people who can help you and lots you can do to help yourself.

Don’t miss this event, if you want to get ready for your student journey and hit the ground running when term starts.

Get Ready for Success is a fun, interactive and friendly event. Spend the day with us in our dedicated student space on 6th floor of the Maxwell building and explore our University, before term starts in September.

  • Meet the tutors who’ll be teaching you, current students and recent graduates for the ‘insider view’ on your student journey.
  • Learn about our approach to ‘learning by doing’
  • Get tips for recommended reading before you start
  • Meet other new students who’ll be joining you in your studies
  • Start to form the friendships that will help you in your first weeks at University
  • Find out about extra-curricular activities such as student societies, sports and leisure pursuits.

Lunch will be on us and there'll be free refreshments and drinks available throughout the day in our school kitchen.

At the end of the day you’ll receive a goodie bag, including a Business School hoodie to keep you warm from day one!

10am-10.45am: Welcome to the Salford Business School family

We are looking forward to welcoming you to our Salford Business School family. Meet the tutors and support staff who will support you in your University journey.

Don’t miss the opportunity to look around our business school facilities and get your bearings before the campus gets busy in September!

10.45am-11.30am: Put your skills into practice – rule and manage your own desert island

Join this ‘fun but serious’ activity that will help you learn about leadership and management skills.

11.30am-11.45am: Refreshments pitstop

11.45am-12.30pm: Campus tour and scavenger hunt

Our academics and current students will show you around our beautiful campus and you’ll take part in a scavenger hunt to find some branded merchandise.

12.30pm-1.15pm: Lunch and socialising

Join us in our student kitchen for a free buffet. Get to know your new friends, have an informal chat with our staff and current students and start to feel settled into your new home.

1.15pm-1.45pm: International trade game

The recent pandemic and global geopolitics have highlighted the importance of worldwide supply chains. In this fun session, you’ll learn the principles of effective international trade by trading with each other. We can’t wait to see which one of you will win the prize for most profitable trader.

2pm-2.30pm: Reality Check: Meet existing students and recent graduates

What’s it really like to study at Salford? What are your job prospects? Ask the people who know best and have recent experience of being a student at Salford Business School.

2.30pm-3pm: Get ready for studying at Salford

Get ahead in your studies with some recommended reading and online resources to help you before you join us in September.

3pm-3.30pm: Final questions

Rejoin our tutors and staff to ask any remaining questions you may have thought of, throughout the day. Receive your goodie bag and don’t forget to stay in touch with all your new friends and tutors!

FAQs

Getting here / where to park

Salford Crescent train station is on campus and there are several bus stops on Salford Crescent. For more info on how to find us, have a look at our travel page.

If you’re joining us by car, free parking is available for you in our Irwell Place car park, M5 4PE (using Google maps? type in Irwell Place Car Park and the maps application will take you directly there). This is just over the road from the Maxwell building where you will spend your day. Visitors with a blue badge can park for free directly outside the Business School in the parking bays marked disabled, or for free in any of the car parks on-campus.

Check-in location

When you arrive on campus please head to the Maxwell building (number 1 on our campus map). There will be a check-in desk set up where you will be greeted by members of our recruitment team.

You will be based throughout the day in the student space on the 6th floor of the Maxwell building. This is the base for Salford Business School so it's a great opportunity to get to know it before term starts.

Can I bring family and friends?

Of course! We recognise that choosing a university is a big decision, so we'd encourage you to bring a guest. Please let us know how many guests you want to bring so we can arrange lunch for them too.

Parents, supporters and carers, you are welcome to join any of the sessions. Meet with fellow parents in our sixth floor bistro kitchen and chat with our tutors, professional service staff and current students. Carers may want to take a tour to find out more about how our campus is designed to support equality, diversity and inclusivity.

Will there be somewhere to get refreshments?

Yes, refreshments including hot and cold drinks and snacks will be available throughout the day in the dedicated school kitchen. Lunch (including pizza, bhajis, samosas and soft drinks) will be served from 12:30pm. There is also a range of shops and cafes on-campus for you to buy anything else you need. 

Do you have support for students with a disability?

Yes. If you have a disability, please tell us your access requirements when you book. We’ll then work with you to do everything we can to support you on the day.
