Maxwell restaurant opens today after a complete refurbishment – and featuring the University’s first ever Subway outlet.  And there will be free cupcakes and samples to mark the occasion.

The new look eatery will be unveiled along with Allerton and Clifford Whitworth Library Café, ready to welcome colleagues and our new and returning students.

The Estates & Property Services team have been working in partnership with SALFOOD throughout the summer to give SALFOOD Maxwell an amazing new look. The aim is to create a relaxed and modern environment for our colleagues and students. Some of the graphics and artwork you will see in the newly refurbished outlets have been designed by our very own students.

Since January we have been working with SALFOOD on a programme of improvements to campus catering services. The University and SALFOOD has made significant investments in the catering team, restaurant and café environments and menus, listening to feedback from colleagues and students to create a flagship university operation, with great food and fantastic dining areas.
New features in Maxwell include:

  • A light, bright and fresh new look with new lighting, flooring, decoration and comfort cooling systems
  • Seating for a lot more people, enabled by a significant increase to the existing dining area
  • A Subway outlet at the far end of the dining area
  • A new shop, including Costa Coffee facility, separate from the restaurant
  • A re-vamped serving area
  • Different seating style, including intimate café tables and sofas, as well as high communal tables enabling larger groups to sit together
  • Plenty of sockets, meaning more of you will be able to charge your phones during lunch or have coffee and a pastry while you work
  • Extended opening hours during the week and also weekends

Colleagues will also be able to use their Subway subcard on site.

The new Maxwell restaurant will offer a wide variety of exciting food choices and halal options will be available daily.
