BOOM Study

Biomechanical Outcomes associated with Osteoarthritis progression in Meniscectomy patients during athletic and functional tasks

Who can participate?

We are currently recruiting individuals aged between 18 and 35 years who play or compete in sport regularly. We are recruiting two groups of individuals to participate in this study.

A) Individuals who have recently sustained a meniscal injury during a sporting manoeuvre and have been referred for surgery in the next couple of months.

B) Individuals who are healthy and has not previously sustained a lower body injury.

What is required?

You will be asked to visit the Performance Capture Laboratory at the Manchester Institute for Health and Performance for a two hour visit. You will undertake one/two biomechanical assessment/s of sport specific movements, which will help us assess how you move and examine the loading through your knee joint during each movement. For A) injured individuals you will be asked to attend the laboratory on two occasions; pre surgery and 3-6 months post-surgery, when you have been cleared to return to your sport. For B) healthy individuals you will be asked to attend the laboratory on one occasion.

If you would like to register your interest in this study and find out more about the study, please complete the form below. We will then contact you to discuss the study further and to discuss your eligibility.
