Biography
Prof Davis obtained his PhD in Advanced Robotics from the University of Salford in 2005 and became a Team Leader at the Italian Institute of Technology in 2008, he is currently Chair in Advanced Robotics at the University of Salford (UK). His research interests include manufacturing, actuators, ‘soft’ robotics, dexterous robot hands and biomimetics. He has been guest editor for a number of robotics journals and on the programme committee for the major IEEE conferences ICRA and IROS. He has attracted significant research funding including a KTP with Hellerman Tyton Ltd., a Feasibility study from the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Intelligent Automation and Innovate UK funding with AMEC Foster Wheeler. He is Co-Investigator on the UK EPSRC Hub FAIRSPACE and was Co-Investigator on EU FP7 manufacturing project SMART-E and the GAMMA project and was lead researcher on the DEFRA funded Grail Robot project. In addition he has undertaken commercial research projects in various manufacturing sectors including food, automotive and energy.
